Bliss

Yesterday morning at about eleven o'clock, my neighbour packed up his car, loaded in his wife and the two girls and drove off to Germany. They're going to be away for two weeks.

Breathes out a huge sigh of relief. No noise, no bontempi organ, no electric guitar (well, not yet), no thumping up and down the stairs and screaming. Just the peaceful swish of water in the stream, wind in the trees and
Sheeps Templar sharpening their knives in Cae Newydd, readying themselves to battle the evil Saracens.

I'm not the most festive of people. If it weren't for the fact that my parents are coming to stay, I'd probably more or less ignore Christmas and just use the extra quiet to get on with some writing. As it is, I'll have to put the keyboard aside for a few days and try to summon up some Yuletide cheer. I'm trying hard not to resent my parents for coming - I asked them after all. But I'm on something of a roll right now - broke 100k words last night, and I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Unless it's a bloody great train.

The plan was to have this novel finished by the end of the year. I'm close, but I don't think I'm going to make it, more's the pity. Right now I have to go and find the house, somewhere under the mound of dog hairs and other associated kipple that have accumulated in the weeks since I started writing and stopped keeping the place clean. Tomorrow I have to brave Aberystwyth on the last shopping day before Christmas (they don't really do Sunday opening here in the arse end of nowhere).

But at least when I get home it will be quiet.

But you're close, and that's fantastic. This is a ms I can't wait to read. I've been looking forward to it ever since I read that short story.

I'm working on it, Sandra. OK? Just be patient. Give me a break already.

No, I fully intend to nag and threaten you with whips until it's done.

Okay, seriously, I'm just happy to hear you're close and it sounds like it's going well. That's awesome.
